Town England Connection Rears its Head Again Wed 01st Nov 2000 11:37
Rather surprisingly it has emerged that new England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has an Ipswich Town connection. Although never a Town manager, unlike two of his England predecessors, Eriksson spent a sizable anount of time watching Town in the seventies. The then manager of IFK Gothenburg travelled to England to try to get some insight into the English game and with Portman Road a temple of one of the finest examples of the English game at the time, as well as being closest to Felixstowe, it was here that he watched his football.

That means that Martijn Reuser, Titus Bramble and David Johnson and may all get starts against an Arsenal side likely to look very similar to the reserve side which beat the Town second string 3-0 two weeks ago.

Whilst the scoreline may flatter the London club, Arsenal certainly did deserve the victory as they had more chances, and ran the midfield. None of the players on this showing alone deserve to make the first eleven on Saturday, but was a good run-out, keeping the fitness levels high.
